End Of The Year BBQ

We had our annual "End Of The Year BBQ" last week and everyone had blast! This event is so great because everyone gets to socialize with their friends outside in a fun laid back setting. It also gives everyone the opportunity to say goodbye to the staff and their friends for the summer break.
On the grill we had hotdogs and hamburgers sizzling, the start to any good BBQ! We also had an intense game of kickball with participates and staff! Others enjoyed a couple games of horse shoes. It was a great way to end our Spring programs, and we wish everyone a fantastic summer! See you in the fall!

Mamaroneck Shares Block Parties

Mamaroneck Shares is holding a total of 4 block parties this summer. South East Consortium is one of the three charities that will benefit from the proceeds of these four events. For more information about Mamaroneck Shares please check out their Website. We are still looking for volunteers for the next block party on July 19th. If you are interested please contact Jerry Peters at the SEC office (914) 698-5232

The first block party was held in June and everyone had a wonderful time. There were plenty of activities for kids to enjoy such as face painting, trampoline, bounce castle, slide, petting zoo, obstacle course, high striker, DJ and more. The avenue was also filled with a variety of venders and all the participating restaurants on Mamaroneck Avenue were bustling with people all enjoying the block party.

We want to invite everyone to come out to the remaining 3 events left this summer, the dates are July 19th, August 16th and September 6th. In July we have fun activities planned including but not limited to fire juggler, face painters, dunk tank, petting zoo, DJ, bounce castle, slide and kid friendly obstacle courses.

New Legislation for Restoration of State Funding

South East has been advised that new legislation is being introduced in the NYS Assembly and Senate to restore OPWDD funding that was cut in the NYS budget.  The legislation is sponsored by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg.  This bill (A.6692) has 142 co-sponsors, almost every member of the Assembly.  If Speaker Silver allows a vote, it is almost certain to pass.  Please take the time to call your Assembly member and tell him/her to vote for A.6692 immediately.  To ask for your Assembly member, call the Assembly switchboard at (518) 455-4100 and ask to be connected to your Assembly member.

Thank you.  Together we can make this happen!

South East Consortium West Point Meet

This past Saturday the Sharks Swim Team made the trip up through the Hudson Valley to West Point Military academy to compete in the aquatics portion of the annual 2013 Spring Games West.
The event, hosted by Special Olympics New York, saw teams from all over the lower Hudson valley and as far away as Long Island competing in aquatic events.

The day started with opening ceremonies at West Point’s Shea Stadium. Each athlete was partnered up with a West Point cadet volunteer. The cadets escorted the Sharks around the field during the parade of athletes prior to the torch lighting ceremony. Our cadets followed us to the swimming pool facility where they continued their spirited support.

The Sharks dominated in both single events and team relays. Athletes competed in various events including the 25 meter free, 50 meter free, 100 meter free, 50 meter breast stroke, and 50 meter back stroke. Relays included the 25 meter free and 50 meter free.
Athletes who participated in the 4x50 meter relay placed 1st in an exciting, down to the wire dash to the finish. Those athletes included Andrew Myers, Gianfranco Siciliano, Matthew Teator and Jakob Supranowitz.

Other medalists included Liam Cadigan who grabbed his first gold medal for his efforts in the 25 meter backstroke. The Sharks showed a strong presence in the 25 meter breast stroke. Something they had been working very hard on at practice. All preformed beautifully.
All athletes broke their personal bests in time in at least one event. Overall a successful day for all participants.

2013 South East Formal

On Saturday, April 27th the 7th Annual South East Formal was hosted at Bronxville High School by teen volunteers from the Bronxville Youth Council.  The Night was filled with fun, food, festivities, and music.  Participants danced the night away with their friends to the smooth sounds of DJ Mike. The evening would not have been possible without the great support of the teen volunteers who planned, decorated and partook in the event.  Everyone had a great time and made memories to last a lifetime!
