South East Consortium West Point Meet

This past Saturday the Sharks Swim Team made the trip up through the Hudson Valley to West Point Military academy to compete in the aquatics portion of the annual 2013 Spring Games West.
The event, hosted by Special Olympics New York, saw teams from all over the lower Hudson valley and as far away as Long Island competing in aquatic events.

The day started with opening ceremonies at West Point’s Shea Stadium. Each athlete was partnered up with a West Point cadet volunteer. The cadets escorted the Sharks around the field during the parade of athletes prior to the torch lighting ceremony. Our cadets followed us to the swimming pool facility where they continued their spirited support.

The Sharks dominated in both single events and team relays. Athletes competed in various events including the 25 meter free, 50 meter free, 100 meter free, 50 meter breast stroke, and 50 meter back stroke. Relays included the 25 meter free and 50 meter free.
Athletes who participated in the 4x50 meter relay placed 1st in an exciting, down to the wire dash to the finish. Those athletes included Andrew Myers, Gianfranco Siciliano, Matthew Teator and Jakob Supranowitz.

Other medalists included Liam Cadigan who grabbed his first gold medal for his efforts in the 25 meter backstroke. The Sharks showed a strong presence in the 25 meter breast stroke. Something they had been working very hard on at practice. All preformed beautifully.
All athletes broke their personal bests in time in at least one event. Overall a successful day for all participants.

2013 South East Formal

On Saturday, April 27th the 7th Annual South East Formal was hosted at Bronxville High School by teen volunteers from the Bronxville Youth Council.  The Night was filled with fun, food, festivities, and music.  Participants danced the night away with their friends to the smooth sounds of DJ Mike. The evening would not have been possible without the great support of the teen volunteers who planned, decorated and partook in the event.  Everyone had a great time and made memories to last a lifetime!

Sunday Funday In Central Park

Magical Mystery spent a beautiful Sunday in Central Park. We got to tour the park and see all the newly blossoming flowers. Spring is finally here! We got to see the famous boathouse and watch all the people in the row boats. Magical Mystery enjoyed some ice cream ice and got to watch all the dogs, people and kids play in the park. We got to see the NY Public Library and also got to have lunch across from Bryant Park. What a Sunday!

The Rangers Win!

What a nail bitter! South East went to see the New York Rangers play the Winnipeg Jets. Madison Square Garden was rocking with the sound of screaming fans. In the first 10 seconds of the game the Rangers scored. We knew it was going to be a good game. We munched on yummy food while we watched NY Rangers hit puck after puck into the net. Our NY Rangers took home a win!

Monster Jam

On March 10th, Magical Mystery ventured into the world of monster trucks. The morning started with a train ride to Bridgeport CT. When we arrived the smell of exhaust got everyone excited for the show. Once inside, the group got the chance to meet all the drivers and take tons of pictures. Everyone got to walk on the mud the trucks would soon be driving on. The show was great! The trucks raced and did really cool tricks. Everyone had a great time!

Hawks VS North East

Bronxville High School – April 10, 2013

The South East Consortium Hawks swooped into action last night against their friendly rivals to the North at Bronxville High School this past Monday night.

The Hawks squared off against North East basketball in a fast paced, high scoring game. Unfortunately the momentum gained in the second quarter by North East did not let up. For a second time the Hawks met defeat against North East (28-36.)

Chris Horan, Magaret Stone, Johnny Reichelt, William Byrnes, Andrew Brooks and Darnell Winfield put up big points throughout the game. Larry Succo, Brian Smith, Chris Bisconti and Andrew Myers played tenacious defense.

Points aside the game was a huge success for the home team. Parents , fans coaches and athletes cheered on as every player saw court time. It was a new and rewarding experience for several Hawk members.- Jason Frank, John Cortalano, Gabriel Anderson and John Feiner.

At half time the team analyzed their game play up to that point; what was working and what wasn’t. After the half ,back on the court, there was a marked improvement where needed.

The evening would not have been possible without the remarkable dedication and enthusiasm from the Bronxville High School student volunteers; Preston, Rosalie, Mcleod, Delia and Matt. The sign toting students kept game time, recorded points made and helped officiate the game.

The Hawks hope to continue and strengthen their relationship with North East by playing more games in the future. GO HAWKS!
